The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), funded by the ational Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)N and conducted at 27 centers nationwide, was a landmark trial to show that lifestyle changes or metformin can effectively delay diabetes in a diverse population of American adults with overweight or obesity who are at high risk of diabetes in the short term and long term compared to placebo. The Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) began in 2002 and is now in its fourth phase. DPPOS Phase 4 (DPPOS-4) focuses on the course of brain aging and development of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders among individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes.
