The Pennington Biomedical Research Center has multiple postdoctoral fellowships available in acquisition and analysis of MRI data.
There is an opening for a postdoctoral fellow who is expected to optimize and implement state-of-the-art pulse sequences in the two general areas of neuroimaging and body composition imaging, with a goal of assembling a toolbox of validated sequences for investigators studying obesity, diabetes, aging, and related conditions.

There is also an opening for a postdoctoral fellowship in body composition MRI and MRS post-processing. The fellow is expected to implement image processing software pipelines that will enable the extraction of useful body composition parameters from state-of-the-art MRI or MRS acquisitions.

The Biomedical Imaging Center at Pennington is in an exciting period of major growth, with a major institutional investment and a new Director, Owen Carmichael, tasked with greatly expanding its support of cutting-edge studies in diabetes, obesity, aging, and related conditions. The Center is home to two 3T GE MRI machines, including a Discovery 750w installed in 2013 and a Signa Excite HDxT. The systems are loaded with a full complement of state-of-the-art sequences and head coils. The fellow will have access to these scanners as well as a large-scale, extensible cluster computing machine and desktop computing equipment. Beyond MRI, the Biomedical Imaging Center also includes two DEXA scanners, ultrasound equipment, and a new x-ray machine for multi-modality studies. Brain PET imaging from partners within Baton Rouge is also available. These imaging resources support a large Pennington research portfolio that includes 50 research laboratories, 70 faculty, 100 adjunct faculty and over 30 postdoctoral researchers. In 2012, Pennington was ranked one of the top ten places in the US to work as a postdoc, with two postdoctoral T32 training grants, numerous career development activities, and a variety of scientific education programs. Pennington is a member of the Louisiana State University system situated in the lovely, thriving, and family-friendly city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
